In a world overflowing with political rhetoric, distorted narratives, and competing versions of truth, learning how to understand our own inner language has become urgent work — especially for bi+ folks, queer people at large, people of color, and ANYONE navigating identity in a time of cultural tension.
In this week’s episode of Embracing All of Me, writer and neurolinguistics practitioner Britnei Nicole joins the house to explore how language functions as a technology — one that programs our perception, trains our nervous system, and ultimately shapes who we believe we’re allowed to be.
At the core of Britnei’s work is a simple but powerful idea:
The words we use are not neutral. They build our inner world.
Every phrase, every inherited script, every story, every narrative we repeat becomes a kind of internal coding. And for many of us — particularly those carrying racialized or queer experiences — that coding can be deeply embedded and often begins in environments that taught us to shrink, to anticipate threat, or to modify ourselves completely for safety.
Britnei reminds us that transformation doesn’t start with grand gestures. It starts with micro-skills — noticing the patterns in your self-talk, understanding why certain words trigger you, or practicing small acts of self-expression or “release” that gently push against old limitations. Even the practice of movement, like dance, can help re-pattern the nervous system and create new pathways for confidence and authenticity.
As we step into 2026 and beyond, this kind of self-study becomes more than personal development — it becomes a form of resilience.
In an era of “alternative facts,” reclaiming our language means reclaiming our clarity. It means remembering that the stories we inherit aren’t the stories we have to live.
Whether through journaling, shadow work, or the quiet courage of naming your truth, language can become the bridge back to your fullest self. And as Britnei says, the goal isn’t to avoid challenges — it’s to become someone who can transform anything thrown your way.
Someone unfuckwithable.
