When Michael Lemus hears his own bio out loud — “proud bisexual Latino, first-generation college graduate, founder of Reclaiming Your Happiness with Lemus LLC” — what hits him most isn’t the accomplishments.
It’s the joy.
Or rather, the long, intentional journey back to it. Michael leads with heart, honesty, and a spiritual clarity that feels rare in a world moving too fast for self-reflection. But none of that was inherited. It was reclaimed.
Growing up as an only child and the first in his family to navigate higher education, Michael carried responsibilities that would shape him long before he understood their weight.
Translating systems, mediating conflicts, absorbing adult conversations too early — he later discovered the name for it: parentification. By the time he earned his master’s degree, he was not only breaking generational barriers but quietly breaking under the pressure of being the family’s hope, guide, and emotional glue.
So when he made the painful decision a year and a half ago to cut off contact with his parents, it wasn’t impulsive. It was survival.
His story echoes what many are only now beginning to say out loud: 27% of American adults — 67 million people — are estranged from a family member (Cornell University, 2019).
And for Michael, estrangement is not a sign of failure but of growth. “Two things can be true at once,” he says. “I can grieve and still be proud of myself for choosing peace.”
That same duality threads through his bisexual identity. Coming out at 27, after years of suppression, catapulted him into a fuller way of being — softer, freer, spiritually balanced. Bisexuality, for him, isn’t a midpoint; it’s an expansion. It’s the integration of masculine and feminine energy, a return to wholeness after years of fragmenting himself to fit into expectations that were never his to carry.
As a content creator and consultant, Michael uses his platform to uplift others on their journey toward joy and self-recognition. His videos land not because they are polished, but because they are real — raw reflections on grief, boundaries, culture, spirituality, and belonging.
In a political moment defined by fear, division, and the targeting of queer communities, Michael sees something else emerging: a collective awakening. A shifting of consciousness. A remembering of our power when we choose each other — and ourselves.
His message is simple, but not easy: You deserve a life that feels like your own. Choosing yourself isn’t selfish. It’s sacred.
